Roti is the unleavened flatbread made with whole wheat flour. Tandoori roti is light & there is no added material in it. It can be served with pulses, veggies, and even non-vegetarian dishes.

 

Naan

Naan is the leavened flatbread which is heavier in comparison to roti. It is stuffed with materials. Naan is made through all-purpose flour. The stuffing is of curd, nigella seeds, raisins, butter, and fresh desiccated coconut. You can even have a non-vegetarian version and in that, you can add keema as the stuffing.

Cooking Method

Tandoori roti

To make tandoori roti, you need the following items:

  • Wheat flour – 2 cups
  • Salt – Half teaspoon
  • Oil – 1 tsp

Mix salt and flour with water in little amounts which makes the dough soft. Make sure to add water in less amount. You need to press and bind the flour to make it smooth. Once it is ready, make small lumps out of it. Roll the dough to make it flat and keep it on the Tawa. You need to add yeast to it and let it rest for 5 minutes. After that add salt to the bowl.

 

Cooking style

  • Roti is cooked on the Tawa or flat skillet
  • Naan is cooked in a tandoor which is kept over a wood fire or oven which runs through charcoal.

 

Types

  • With tandoori roti, there are different kinds and types like Missi roti, roomali roti, tandoori roti, chapati, phulka, and others.
  • With naan, you have different types. In that case, you can select the lachha naan, paneer naan, garlic naan, baby naan, butter naan, keema naan, nawabi naan, and many others.

 

 Thickness

  • Naan is thicker as compared to the Rotis
  • Roti thickness is different, however, it is less thick as compared to naan.

 

Texture

  • Roti is not that flexible and it is coarser. You need to get it chewed.
  • On the other hand, naan is soft as it contains yeast and flour.

 

Preparation Time

  • Roti takes less time to prepare as its method is easy.
  • Naan takes more time to make.

 

Nutritional Value

  • Roti is loaded with essential minerals, potassium, iron, fiber, and proteins.
  • Naan’s nutritional value is less. It contains cholesterol and fat in excess.
