Complex Spices Used In Indian Curries To Add A Special Flavour

If you wanted to associate Indian food in one word you would use the term “Curry”. Most people think that Indian food is all about Curry, but is it though?

If you visit India you would learn that Indians do not even use the term curry to describe the food, however, Curry is a leaf that is used a lot in the southern region and its cuisines.

The term curry is often used by the tourist Indian Restaurant In Sydney. There is no such thing as curry powder in India, but they do use many spices in their dishes.

The use of spices in Indian food is because it acts as a healthy component as the spices contain anti-oxidants in them. It is also used for killing bacteria that recites in the food due to its hot weather, which can result in the spoiling of the food.

“Kari” to “ Curry”

In many parts of India, the sauce that the dishes has is called “Kari”, it is speculated that the term curry has been coined from Kari, though there is a vast difference in both the description. According to people in foreign countries, curry is a powder or a spice that is used as an ingredient to make Indian dishes.

Whereas in India, the term Kari is used to describe the sauce of the dish. And there is no ingredient name as curry powder that is being used. Rather there are tons of spices that are used in the cuisine. And FYI not all spices are spicy, it just adds flavours to the food item.

There is one dish that has won not only the hearts of the natives but also of foreigners, that is “Chicken Tikka Masala”.

It is the most popular dish that originates from the northern region of India. And the curry that is in these food items can be categorised into two different parts: wet and dry(semi-dry).

Wet curries are usually made by mixing cream or coconut milk in the spices whereas in dry the ingredients are sauteed in the oil.

Rather than using “Curry powder” as an ingredient while making these dishes, there are ample spices that are used, and it depends on the recipes that you follow, yes the recipes of the same dish might vary from person to person after all food is an art and it can not be boxed.
